Was Fable 5 Free? The June 9–22 Window

Access & preview informational Last reviewed Updated

The free window

When Fable 5 launched on June 9, 2026, Anthropic bundled an introductory offer: the model was free for subscribers on Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans through June 22, 2026. The idea was to let existing customers try the Mythos-class public edition before paid usage began.

What happened after June 23

From June 23, Fable 5 moved to usage-based pricing. The headline rates for the generation are $10 per million input tokens and $50 per million output tokens after the introductory period — see Fable 5 pricing for the full breakdown.

Why the free offer is paused

Here's the wrinkle: only days into the free window, the June 12, 2026 US export-control directive suspended access to Fable 5 (and Mythos 5), and that suspension is currently active. So while the free offer was real, it can't be used while access is paused. For the live picture, see Is Fable 5 suspended?.

What this means for you

If you held a Pro, Max, Team, or Enterprise plan, you were eligible for the free window in principle. Whether you can actually use Fable 5 today depends entirely on the suspension status, which you should confirm on the official notice and status page.
